BPI's goals: To verify that products can be successfully decomposed in professionally managed composting facilities without compromising compost quality and that organic waste can be successfully transferred to compost.
The International Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and the United States Composting Council (USCC) jointly established a compostable plastic product verification program. Biodegradable and compostable products meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) ASTM D6400 and/or ASTM D6868 standards to grant the composting mark.
